Ed Hummer Oil Painting "High Country II"

An oil painting on canvas titled High Country II by American artist Judge Ed J. Hummer (20th Century). This piece depicts a snowy ridge of red rock, with the snow on one side melted off to reveal the rocky surface under the exposure of the rising sun. It is painted with visible, textured brushstrokes and signed to the lower left in paint. It is inscribed with the additional title ‘Red Ridge’ to the verso. The piece includes a pamphlet with information on the artist and is presented as an unframed, stretched canvas.

Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
