Item Details

Provenance
Purchased by consignor from artist.

A signed artist’s proof etching on paper titled Davids’ Kitchen Road by listed American artist and educator Herbert Fink (1921-2006), created in 1970. This work features a dense woodland area with a large prominent oak tree in the foreground, and barren trees fading into the distance of the hazy atmosphere. The artist captures the intricate details and textures of the tree bark and curvilinear branches with precise, careful delineations. The work is signed and dated by hand in graphite to the lower right; it is titled and marked ’artist’s proof’ to the lower left. Presented under glass, double-matted with off-white and gray mats, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame.

Known for his drawings and prints, Herbert Lewis Fink received his B.F.A. at the Rhode Island School of Design and his M.F.A. from Yale University. He continued his art training at the Art Students League in New York with Arshile Gorky, John Frazier, and Gabor Peterdi, among others. His work has been collected by numerous institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Art Institute of Chicago, to name a few.
