An oil painting on canvas by American artist Judge Ed Hummer, titled French Trapper. This painting depicts the titular, bearded man trotting on horseback alongside a Native American inspired figure through a wooded area covered in snow. To the lower right corner of the composition is a painted signature. The painting is wrapped over a wooden stretcher. Also included is a pamphlet regarding the artist.

Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
