An oil painting on canvas titled New Mexico Spring by American artist Judge Ed J. Hummer (20th Century). This piece depicts a spring day in the mountains of New Mexico, with snow on the ground melting in patches and a figure riding a horse-drawn cart along a dirt road. It is painted with visible, textured brushstrokes and signature carved into the paint in the lower right. The work is titled to the verso and includes a pamphlet with information on the artist. This piece is presented as an unframed, stretched canvas.

Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
