Antique Japanese Woven Rattan Tobacco Inro with Bamboo Netsuke

Item Details

An antique Japanese woven rattan tobacco inro with a bamboo netsuke from the Edo Period around 1600’s to 1870’s. The work includes a faded ink design to the front. The inro or sealed basket were traditionally worn hanging around the waist. The netsuke or root fix was used keep the inro from the obi or waist sash. For this example the netsuke is a stained piece of bamboo.

Condition

- to fair; wear to the body of the pouch; some wear and discoloration to the lid of the pouch; design has faded with age; warping to the body of the pouch; wear to the string.
