A graphite and acrylic drawing on paper titled Forever, My Guardian by listed artist Sam Watts-Kidd (Cherokee, 20th – 21st-Century). The artist uses her work to rediscover and connect with her cultural roots. Signed in graphite to the lower right corner. The piece is housed in a black metal frame under acrylic glass and matting. To the verso is the title and artist’s name.
Sam Watts-Kidd is known for her Cherokee themed works. Primarily self-taught, the artist was exposed to some formal training while receiving her BA in Native American Studies from Northeastern State University. The artist uses her art and the research it requires as a tool to explore and share her cultural heritage. Kidd is currently employed by the Cherokee National Historical Society and Museum. Her work can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States.
