Property from an American Midwestern Museum
An oil painting on board titled Nocturne by listed artist Henri Gadbois (American; born 1930), dated 1967. The work depicts a nocturnal western landscape comprised of a luminous moon appearing between brown clouds, transitioning through an arid territory. The piece is signed and dated to the lower left corner. The painting is presented without glass, beneath beige linen matting with a gilt fillet, housed in a wood frame with a gilt fillet.
Gadbois was born in Houston, Texas and acquired his formal artistic training at the University of Houston, studying under the likes Robert Preusser and Lowell Collins. Subsequently, he taught in various institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston School. Gadbois’s work has been exhibited in multiple public and private collections featuring the Museum of Fine Art Houston, Longview Museum and San Antonio Fine Arts Association among many others.
