A copy oil painting on canvas titled Beach Scene by listed artist and known forger Elmyr De Hory (Hungarian; 1906-1976). In the manner of Eugene Louis Boudin (1824 – 1898), the work depicts is a group of finely dressed men and women taking a stroll along a windy beach in the sunshine. De Hory’s signature is to the verso. Informative plaque to lower margin of frame. The piece is presented without glass in a gold-toned wooden frame with a wire hanger to verso.
Elmyr De Hory was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1906. He studied at Akademie Heinmann art school in Munich, but was unable to make a living as an artist. De Hory found that he had an uncanny ability to copy the works of noted painters such as Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, and Renoir. During his lifetime, he claimed to have sold over a thousand forgeries to art galleries across the world.
