A copy oil painting on canvas titled Sunset – Moonrise by listed artist and known forger Elmyr De Hory (Hungarian, 1906 – 1976), dated 1969. The painting depicts an Impressionist landscape in the manner of Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890). The work is signed and dated to the canvas verso. It is housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame.

Elmyr De Hory was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1906. He studied at Akademie Heinmann art school in Munich, but was unable to make a living as an artist. De Hory found that he had an uncanny ability to copy the works of noted painters such as Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, and Renoir. During his lifetime, he claimed to have sold over a thousand forgeries to art galleries across the world.
