A 1986 acrylic, ink and gouache mixed media painting on paper titled Birches by the Pond by well-listed New York artist Sylvia Plimack Mangold (born 1938). The work depicts a winter landscape of bare birch treetops, rendered in shades of brown and set against distant cream hillsides, reaching toward pale blue skies. The work is signed, titled and dated to the verso. A layer of masking tape lines the painting, which is set against a white backing. It is matted in white and presented under glass in a natural wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso. The signature is viewable via a small window cut to the frame backing, which also includes two additional labels with artist and title information.

- slight toning to paper and matting; a layer of masking tape lines the painting; minor edge wear, scratching and scuffing to frame; sticker to frame glass at lower right.
