Dogon Carved Wood Granary Door

A carved wood panel with numerous raised relief human figures. Per the consignor it is a granary door from the Dogon culture, West Africa, a group renowned for their wood carving among other things. It is in two pieces joined by metal bands, with a rounded post to the right edge which the door would pivot on. It is labeled ‘Hand Made in the Ivory Coast’, circa early to mid-20th century vintage.

Condition

- large but repaired crack to left panel; multiple small chips to protruding limbs of figures.
