Antique Oak Dornette Roll Top Desk

An antique oak Dornette roll top desk. This roll top desk, with oak drawer pulls and paneled sides, has one long drawer in the center and three stacking drawers on the right side; with a rolling serpentine tambor which conceals an interior with nine pigeon holes at the back top over two letter slots over two drawers. The entire case rests directly upon the floor on the panelled side on the left and on a raised plinth under the drawers on the right. Desk marked on a cast brass plate: J. Dornetter & Brother Cincinnati OHIO USA. Comes with pressed back oak chair with caned seat.

This company specialized in the manufacture of desks and bookcases was founded in 1877 and had it’s first factory located at Sixth and Stone Streets that then moved to 332 Pearl Street before moving to Mill Creek Bottoms in 1882. Company received patents for typewriter desk designs in 1899.
