A silver-gelatin photograph titled The Icy Waters of Cascade Canyon by American photographer and painter Harrison Crandall (1887-1970). This black and white photograph features a winding creek of Cascade Canyon located in Grand Teton National Park. A blind copyright stamp is present to the lower left, reading ‘Crandall © Grand Teton National Park’. To the verso, the photograph is marked with a stamp that reads the title and ‘Copyright by Crandall – Grand Teton National Park / 1068’. The work is presented under glass with light gray matting, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame with a low-relief pattern.

Harrison Crandall received formal art training in Kansas and later studied at the Los Angeles School of Art. When Grand Teton National Park was established in 1929, he became the first official photographer, earning the nickname “Park Photographer and Resident Artist”. With studios at Jenny Lake and Moran, he is celebrated for his panoramic photographs of both the Grand Teton mountain range and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
