Antique Eastlake Marble Top Washstand With Mirror

An antique Eastlake marble top washstand with mirror. This American white marble topped washstand is made of walnut with figured walnut veneer. It features an architectural pediment decorated with incised roundels on eight squares above a panel of figured walnut veneer with incised carved roundels and dentils, over the rectangular mirror, with panels of figured walnut veneer above and below, set in a frame with incised carved lines between similarly moulded supports. The mirror rests on the three-sided white marble backsplash above the marble top above the cabinet with one full-width drawer over two stacked drawers on the left and a cabinet door to the right. The drawers offer knapp or scallop-and-dowel joints (in use 1871-1900) and carved fruit and foliage pulls. The door features a recessed panel of figured walnut veneer. The piece rests on a moulded ogee plinth base on square feet on castors. Key not included. No apparent maker’s mark.
