A hand-knotted Persian Shiraz area rug. This wool carpet features a color palette of madder red, burnt orange , indigo, olive green, pumpkin, ivory, and burgundy. It has a diamond shaped crenelated medallion on a madder red field patterned with cruciform shapes, lobbed flowers, and ramshorn motifs. The main has repeating cruciform shapes with running water and line dot guard borders framing either side. It has ivory colored fringe to either end with overcast selveges. Marked to the reverse ‘Made in Iran’.
