Butler & McCarty and Other 800 Silver Flatware
Item Details
A five-piece collection of 800 silver flatware. This includes a small ladle by Butler & McCarty of Philadelphia, PA (active 1850-1868), which features a tipped fiddle handle with pointed shoulders and personalized engraving. It is double stamped to the back with the maker’s mark. This is presented with a demitasse spoon with twisted stem, a fiddle handled spoon with shell bowl, and a master butter knife by Albert Coles of New York, NY (active c.1835-1875). Also included is a pierced serving spoon from 1817 by a Dutch silversmith, featuring a latticed openwork bowl with a working figure to the center. It is stamped with three hallmarks of an ‘H’ date mark for 1817, a lion passant with ‘2’ for a minimum silver purity of 833, and a Minerva duty mark. All pieces are marked and have personalized engravings to the backs. The total approximate weight is 3.960 ozt.
