Efren Ordonez Abstract Watercolor Portrait on Paper of a Man

Item Details

A watercolor painting on paper featuring an abstract portrait of a man by celebrated Mexican artist Efren Ordonez (1927-2011), created in 1953. Depicted is a bust portrait of his man with his eyes closed. The composition is portrayed in a post-impressionistic Cloissonnist style with earth tones and thick black outlines that flatten forms in the manner of stained glass designs. The work is signed with the artist’s monogram to the lower left. It is presented under glass with fabric-covered tan matting, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame. Handwriting to the verso provides the artist’s name, location, and date of the work. A tag from Baker Auction is also attached.

Known for his paintings, sculptures and stained glass, Efren Ordonez’s religious themed works earned him the nickname ‘painter of the divine’. His work has been exhibited in various art galleries and museums in Mexico and the United States.
