Antique English Oak Coffer Converted to a Console Cabinet
Item Details
An antique English oak coffer converted to a console cabinet, circa 18th century. The dark-stained, paneled case features a rectangular top above a pair of frontal, hinged doors opening to a single, recessed shelf. The exterior is embellished with carved arches along the frieze and the whole piece rises on later added bulbous feet. The underside is initialed ‘RHR’.

Condition
- scattered surface wear and imperfections, including scratches, chips, and shrinkage cracks; cabinet was originally a coffer thus the top/lid no longer lifts up and the front panel has been segmented and hinged to create doors; the interior shelf was also not originally present and the feet are probably not original; the interior has been papered, most of which is flaking; some rust to hinges; top with a slight gap between boards; one door with an interior lock mechanism but no key; other possible restorations.
