Large Hand-Knotted Persian Mashhad Area Rug
Item Details
A large Persian area rug in the Mashhad style. The rug is hand-knotted in a palette of scarlet, midnight blue, cerulean, and cream. It begins with a center pendant medallion over a midnight blue, contoured field, which is populated with crisply rendered, arabesqued palmettes, leaves, flowers, and vines, elements that continue in the spandrels. Framing the field are seven borders, including a herati primary border grounded in scarlet, featuring meandering palmettes amid flowers and split garrus-style leaves. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory cotton warp fringe. A cleaner’s tag is attached.
