Edgar Yaeger Charcoal Drawing on Paper "Myrtle"

A charcoal drawing on paper titled Myrtle by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1967. This work features a three-quarter view of an older woman seated in a chair, directing her gaze to the viewer. The work is signed ‘E. Yaeger’ and dated to the lower right; additional handwritten inscriptions are present to the lower left. The composition is presented under glass, with off-white matting, and housed in a taupe painted wood frame. A descriptive label is adhered to the verso. The work is accompanied by a brochure on the artist from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.

- some wrinkles and ripples throughout paper; small black mark present in upper left area of mat; minor residue throughout glass; minor scratches and scuffs throughout frame.
