An antique ‘guitar-zither’ by Menzenhauer and Schmidt in model No. 2 1/2, circa the 1890s. This fretless zither is a precursor to the Autoharp. it features a lacquered black finish with gold-toned details around the binding and soundhole, as well as a band of chord notation to the base. It is marked ‘Menzenhauer & Schmidt, Sole Manufacturers of the Menzenhauer Guitar-Zither No. 2 1/2, This instrument will be sold through our special agents only.’ to the interior of the soundchamber.

Condition

- wear to edges; dust to surface; craquelure to varnish; untested.
