Item Details

In Plate

A signed limited edition offset lithograph by Pennsylvania artist Robert Griffing titled The Taking of Mary Jemison. Griffing (American, b. 1950) turned to painting after thirty years in advertising, with a continuous fascination for 18th century Eastern Woodland Native American life. This offset lithograph of an original painting depicts Mary Jemison who was taken from her frontier home on April 5, 1758 by a Shawnee raiding party, and later adopted by two Seneca sisters. The print is double signed, in plate to the lower left and in plate with colored pencil to the lower right, where it is also numbered 668/1250. The art is presented in a dark stained composite frame, with non-glare glass, double mats, a lower metal plaque, and includes a hanging wire to the verso. It includes a certificate of authenticity by Paramount Press, Inc. Framed by John Stobart’s Three Rivers Gallery.
