A limited edition etching on paper titled Seven Students by listed artist Isabel Bishop (1902 – 1988). This print depicts a group of indistinct, shadowed people walking while carrying book bags. It is signed and numbered ‘47/75’ by hand in graphite to the lower margins. This work is matted in white and presented behind glass in a black wooden frame with a paper backing and metal hanging wire to the verso. Affixed to the verso is a label specifying the title and artist.
Isabel Bishop was born in Cincinnati, OH in 1902. She was an American painter and graphic artist, who was widely recognized and exhibited in her lifetime. After WWII Bishop’s interest turned to more abstracted scenes of New Yorkers walking and traveling, in the streets or on the subway. Her most prestigious awards include one for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts, presented to her by President Jimmy Carter in 1979.
