Antique American Bench Or Hired Man's Bed
Item Details
An antique American bench or hired man’s bed. This simple wooden bench and/or bed in the Empire style and dating to the first half of the 19th century, once sat in a kitchen, cook house or laundry and served as a place for the help to rest and as a place for an itinerant laborer on which to sleep. The seat of the bench and the rear panels of the back are currently painted light brown shade often seen in old fashioned milk paint, a homemade paint made from curdled milk and earthen pigment. No apparent maker’s mark.
