A watercolor painting on paper of a fishing scene by listed American artist Granville Perkins (1830-1895), created in 1894. This work features a water shore populated with grassy patches, lush greenery, and a small shelter to the right foreground. A couple fishing boats are visible on the water near the shore. The painting is signed and dated to the lower left. It is presented under glass with off-white matting and housed in a gold-tone gesso frame with a low-relief scrolling mould pattern. An auction label is present to the lower left corner of the glass and a stamp from Custom Art Picture Framing is present to the verso.
Born in Maryland, Granville Perkins studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under James Hamilton. He was employed as an illustrator for Harper & Bros. and Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. His work has been exhibited at numerous art institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, and the Brooklyn Arts Association, among others.
