English 19th Century Brass Inkwell
Item Details
An English 19th century brass inkwell, impressive in proportions, in casket form with an ornate lyre and garland finial, perched birds of prey at the side handles and the expressive mask of Neptune at the center on each side. The base of the ink well is pierced with arabesque foliate scrolls having a repetitive pattern at the base which is elevated on scrolled feet. The hinged lid opens revealing two inkwells (one glass and the other porcelain) flanking a center section for the blotter. Each side of the inkwell is stamped to the underneath Rd.No. 71070.
Condition
- one inkwell is porcelain with crazing and ink stains, the other is antique hand blown glass.
