A limited edition offset lithograph on paper with badges after an original work of art ‘The Hornet’s Nest’ by artist John D. Shaw (20th century). This print depicts a scene commemorating James H. ‘Jimmy’ Doolittle’s famous Tokyo raid of April 1942. The print is personally signed by 16 Doolittle Raiders and the artist. At the base of the composition there are five commemorative patches for the 89th SQ, 37th SQ., Doolittle Raiders, 34th SQ., and 95th SQ. The title and artist’s name are printed in the lower margin and printed beneath that is the following Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle and CaptainMarc A Mitscher confer on the bomber-laden deck of the USS Hornet as the fateful day of April 18th 1942 approaches. This daring bombing raid on Japan gave America the morale boost it badly needed in the wake of destruction at Pearl Harbor. This piece is presented in blue and white matting, behind acrylic glass, and in a gold-tone metal frame. The verso of this piece is equipped to hang.
