An engraving on paper after C.H. Jeens, created after an illustration by listed French artist Gustave Doré (1832 – 1883) for Tennyson’s “Guinevere” from Idylls of the King. The piece is titled The King’s Farewell and depicts King Arthur’s final visit to Guinevere at the convent. The image is rendered in a palette of black against off-white and is signed in plate to the lower right, with artist information printed in plate to the lower margin. It is matted and presented under glass in a gold tone wooden frame with moulded foliate embellishments, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- to fair; tear to paper at lower left; stain to paper at lower right; toning, fading and discoloration to paper and matting; nicks and scratches to frame.
