A Persian Mehriban area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of merlot, midnight blue, sapphire, pink, peach, and cream. It features a slightly atypical Mehriban vase design beginning with a medallion at the center of a merlot-colored field. Surrounding the medallion are symmetrically arranged chains and sprays of flowers, leaves, and palmettes, a vase and bouquet at the top and bottom of the field. The field is framed by compound borders, including a main border grounded in midnight blue, featuring meandering leaves and palmettes; the main border is flanked on either side by meandering-carnation minor borders over peach. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with partially unbound wool warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. Unlabeled.
