A watercolor painting on paper titled Old Church Las Trampas by contemporary American artist Spike Ress (b. 1948). This work features an expansive townscape of Las Trampas, New Mexico with adobe architecture visible in the San Jose de Garcia Church prominently occupying the foreground. The painting is signed and marked ‘New Mexico’ to the lower right. It is titled by hand to the verso; the artist’s contact card and a short bio are adhered to the verso. The composition is presented under glass, double- matted with beige and brown mats, and housed in a wood frame with a medium brown finish.

Born in Long Island, Spike Ress moved to New Mexico with his family in the 1960s. He left a career in commercial art to pursue a full-time career in fine art. Known for his watercolor paintings, his work has been represented by numerous institutions including the Springville Museum of Art, the Charles M. Russell Museum, and the St. George Art Museum, among many others.
