Panamanian Mola Style Pillow and Textile
Item Details
A Panamanian Mola pillow and textile, in the style of the Kuna people. The pillow features abstracted animals merged into geometric forms, decorated with colorful vertical hatch marks on a red ground with a blue backing. The textile presents mythical winged creatures back to back decorated with dot and loop patterns in vibrant fabric against a black ground. It is presented unframed without hanging apparatus, and there are no apparent maker’s marks.
Condition
- area of surface wear to yellow pattern on front of pillow to lower right; light stains to verso of pillow; fraying to edges of textile; stains and discoloration to the verso.
