A Native American turtle storyteller figurine by Acoma Pueblo artist Marilyn Ray (b. 1954). This figurine depicts a turtle with three dimensional figures including a young boy and drum, turtle, dog, cat, bird and ladybug, riding on his back. This polychrome design is made of a light clay, with accents in ochre/red and black. It is signed ‘M. Ray, Acoma, NM 2010.’
Marilyn Ray (Lewis) and her sisters were born into the Corn Clan and learned pottery from there grandmother. Marilyn has been marking pottery since 1966, specializing in storytellers, friendship bowls and other figurative pottery.
