A Victorian carved shell cameo brooch depicting the profile of Medusa with wings on her head and a pair of entwined snakes in the hair and at the throat. Medusa was one of the three Gorgons, transformed from a beautiful mortal woman as punishment by the goddess Athena for her dalliance with Poseidon. The 14K yellow gold oval mount has wrapped detailing and a hinged bar pin.
