A vintage sterling silver cake breaker by C.J. Schneider Mfg. Co. of Toledo, Ohio. The company was founded by Cale Jacob Schneider, who is known for his invention of the cake breaker (patented as the ‘Food Breaker’ in 1932). This piece features a a hollow sterling silver handle with scrolled edges attached to a bent stem with eighteen thin prongs. The handle is marked ‘Sterling’ and the stem is marked, ‘Schneider-Toledo’ followed by a patent number.
