Ron Meyers (Attributed) Hand-Painted Earthenware Platter
Item Details
A large, hand thrown earthenware platter attributed to renowned clay artist Ron Meyers. The platter has a gestural, improvisational hand-painted image of a an animal, possibly a possum or raccoon, in white slip with black line work. The image is hand applied on a hand thrown earthenware platter, made from red clay Meyers mines and processes near his home. His gestural style is reminiscent of Voulkos, with a freeform, loose technique.
Meyers (American) has an MFA degree from the School for American Craftsmen at the Rochester Institute of Technology and taught at the University of South Carolina, retiring from his teaching post there as Professor Emeritus. His work is held and exhibited widely at a number of prestigious institutions including the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.
