Hand-Knotted Signed Persian Sarouk Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted signed Persian Sarouk wool area rug. It has been worked in a palette which includes wine, navy, cerulean, camel, ivory, salmon, and leaf green. There are blue weft threads visible. A large pendant medallion is surrounded a lobed lozenge. The medallion features a symmetrical design which incorporates lance leaves, stems, and a variety of blooming flowers. The theme of blossoms is continued within the confines of the lobed lozenge as well as in the spandrels. There is a wide compound border with floral guard borders and a primary border with repeating floral motifs. The rug bears a signature in a cartouche at one end. There is very abbreviated fringe at each end and the selvedges were overcast. A small tag is attached to the reverse.
