1870 Deykin & Sons Birmingham Silver Plate Toast Rack with Assorted Serveware
Item Details
An assortment of silver plate servingware. Featured is a circa 1870 toast rack with a cut glass butter dish by Deykin & Sons of Birmingham, England (active 1854 – 1895). It has an English registry mark as well as other marks that read ‘Registered Dec. 1, 1870’ and ‘Deykin & Sons’ with a bird and a secondary symbol, each inside of a cartouche. (The diamond shaped English registry mark was discontinued after 1883). Also included is a rectangular footed serving tray with foliate handles, Chippendale style edges, and a floral engraving to the center; a footed shell serving dish with holder by Sheridan; a medium size bowl with a scroll-and-shell rim; and a footed Neoclassical style sugar bowl and creamer set with angular handles by Lehman Brothers Silverware. All items are marked to the undersides.
