Item Details
A Songye-style fertility fetish. The Songye people are a Bantu group from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This fetish, carved from natural wood, depicts a male figure with a swollen belly, an exposed phallus, and slightly bent knees. His enlarged head has a hole on the top and crack along the back, and he balances on an integrated base. There are no visible artist’s mars.
Condition
- base has some holes and a crack on the back of head; these could be intentional.
