A tufted and carved Old Peking style rug. This wool area rug is rendered in a palette of cream, midnight blue, ice blue, rust, tan, and pink. It features a classic Old Peking vase design, which begins with a semi-geometric central medallion featuring twining vines and key motifs amid palmettes surrounding a floral starburst. The medallion rests on a cream-colored field populated with evenly spaced vase and bouquet forms and stylized florals. Elements of the medallion are repeated in the spandrels. Framing the field are three borders, including a Chinese key minor border, and a floral major border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with thick, knotted cotton warp fringe.
