A pastel drawing on paper of a mountainous landscape by listed American artist Stella Elmendorf Tylor (1885-1980), created in the 1930s. Portrayed with large loose delineations and vibrant colors, this work features a hilly landscape with mountains throughout the background and a cloudy sky hovering above. The work is signed and dated to the lower right, appearing to read ‘1939’. It is presented under glass with tan matting and housed in a wood frame with a light brown finish.
Born in Texas, Stella Elmendorf Tylor spent different stages of her career in New York, Wisconsin, and Illinois. She studied at the Art Students League with Robert Henri and partook in the Armory show of 1910. Her work has been represented by several institutions including the Witte Museum, the Elisabet Ney Museum, and the San Antonio Art League, among others.
