A Louis-Philippe I style burl bureau plat. This French style writing table is veneered in amboyna burl wood from Southeast Asia and has a rectangular top with rounded corners, the top inset with three panels of gilt embossed black leather, with the entire top resting on a convex apron set with three side by side drawers on one the front, each fitted with a gilt brass foliate escutcheon, the flanking side drawers over two deeper drawers each fitted with a gilt brass foliate ribbon handle, with an applied molding encompassing the base of the drawers; and under the corners of the desk are the rounded double C scroll cabriole legs ending on scroll feet. No key. No apparent maker’s mark.
