Johnny Friedlaender Signed Etching on Paper of Abstracted Horses

Item Details

A signed etching on paper of abstracted horses by well-listed Polish artist Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992). This work features two stylized horses intertwined with one of their heads silhouetted against the moon. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. It is presented under glass, double-matted with off-white and blue mats, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame.

Although Johnny Friedlaender worked in a variety of mediums, his preferred technique was aquatint etching. He drew influences from Surrealism and Expressionism and is known for his phantasmagoric depictions of animals and human figures. His work has been internationally represented in numerous institutions including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and the Bremen Art Museum, among others.
