Jack Meanwell Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper "McGregor Bay, Ontario"

Item Details

An original 1982 acrylic and watercolor painting on heavyweight fine Whatman wove paper with deckled edges by well-listed Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Meanwell (Cincinnati, 1919 – 2005), titled McGregor Bay, Ontario. The painting is a stunning example of the abstracted landscapes the artist is best-known for. It depicts a series of dark blue silhouetted trees standing on a hill above the Canadian bay. It is painted in bright, loosely-painted fields of red, blue, green, and yellow. It is signed and dated in graphite to the lower center margin. It is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is often associated with fellow Cincinnati painter Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell-Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
