A signed woodcut on paper titled San Bernardino, Taxco by listed Hungarian-American artist Carl Lewis Pappe (1900-1998). This work features a view of the convent San Bernardino among trees, cacti, and additional town architecture, located in Taxco, Mexico. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right margin and is titled to the lower left margin, both of which are concealed by the mat. It is presented under glass with off-white matting, and housed in a black wood frame.

Born in Hungary, Pappe immigrated to the United States at a young age. He studied at the Cleveland School of Art and later the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In 1934, he emigrated to Mexico where he came to know Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Rufino Tamayo, and was an apprentice for Jose Orozco. He works in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, and printmaking. His work has been exhibited by numerous institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Woodmere Art Museum, and the Library of Congress.
