A 17th century antique copy etching on laid paper, carved in reverse by someone in Rembrandt’s studio after an original image by the famed Old Master artist himself. The image is titled The artist’s mother in widow’s dress and black gloves, and as the title suggests depict Rembrandt’s mother. She wears a long black gown and sits solemnly in a high-backed chair, gazing beyond the visible image area. ‘Rembrandt f.’ is signed in-plate to the upper left corner. The print is trimmed at its plate marks without margins. It is mounted to layered black backing and presented behind glass in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, seamless corners, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire.
Condition
- light yellowing and denting to paper, consistent with age. Print has been trimmed at plate marks.
