Japanese Haniwa Style Ceramic Head of a Warrior

A Japanese Haniwa style ceramic head of a warrior. This piece presents a hollow head with pierced eyes and a small mouth and nose. The domed helmet is studded throughout and covers the ears of the head. There are no apparent maker’s marks, and there is folded paper in the cavity of the piece.

Condition

- to poor; crack across back of head; loss to carving on left side of helmet; minor marks throughout; chips to edges of base and carved details.
