Item Details
A pair of antique Chinese guardian lions. These apotropaic lions are made of a terra cotta ceramic material and have a colorful glaze finish across their forms in greens, browns, and blues .These lions are depicting with protruding eyes and tongues, open mouths with exposed teeth, dynamic raised poses, and floral motifs on their bodies. They are depicted with a lion having one paw resting on a smaller lion cub and the other lion with his paw resting on an sphere. These orate decorative pieces appear to be without maker’s marks.
Condition
multiple small chips and cracks, mainly around the base of the ears, the legs, and the feet; both lions are missing a pupil piece from their left eye.
