Richard Scamyhorn and John Steinle co-authored the book offered here entitled, ‘Stockades in the Wilderness: The Frontier Defenses and Settlements of Southwestern Ohio 1788-1795.’ The book takes a historical look at the settling of the old Northwest Territory, the dangers and conflicts that arose and the attempts at keeping settlers safe with forts and blockhouses. This book focuses on the area of Cincinnati from where the Great and Little Miami Rivers flow into the Ohio River. Included with this book is a copy of the ‘Journey to the Promised Land: Journal of Elizabeth Van Horne 1807.’ This journal tells of a young woman’s travel from western Pennsylvania into Ohio and her attempts at reaching Cincinnati.
