A pair of antique Rococo Revival gentleman’s and lady’s chairs. This set of mid 19th century American cherry chairs is upholstered in tufted velvet and come with a antique foot stool of similar age with matching upholstery. The gentleman’s armchair has a finely moulded back with upholstered arms and a moulded skirt between the front legs which extend downward from the moulded hand rests to the scrolled feet of the cabriole legs; with the lady’s chair has no arms, to accommodate the crinoline framed dresses popular at the time, with a finely moulded back and skirt between the two cabriole front legs which end on scrolled feet; the foot stool having a moulded circular frame on four carved cloven hooves. No apparent maker’s marks.
