An oil painting on canvas of a Tonalist landscape by listed German-American artist Henry A. Duessel (1858-1919). This landscape features a large pond secluded in the middle-ground of a retreated forest that is radiated by the warm glowing sky. The painting is signed ‘H.A. Duessel’ to the lower right. It is presented in a gold-tone wood frame with acanthus leaf and crossed ribbon moulding motifs. Henry Duessel spent much of his career in New York and is known for his panoramic, Hudson River style landscapes and maritime scenes.
Condition
- discoloration and toning down center of painting; small spots of paint loss and chipping scattered throughout composition; wear in frame includes larges chips in moulding, especially visible in corners; scratches, stains, and finish loss scattered throughout frame.
